Christmas Carts

Our local big box closed yesterday at 6 pm. Every year it looks like a neutron bomb went off when the blue shuts its doors. I got some shots last night and today. I hope you are all enjoying today.

Butterfly

I shot this for the cover of the Gallup Journey free monthly magazine in Gallup at the behest of the belt's creator Aaron Anderson who I have worked with before. Each butterfly is unique being cast in tufa stone which only allows for one casting per mold. The turqoise is from the Fox Mine- beautifl work by Aaron- as always.

I'm rusty on my studio shooting, but I call the results- fair to middlin'. I also shot some shopping carts this morning and I heard that Wal Mart closes at noon today- can't wait for lonely sunset shopping cart photos. More to come.

Mephistophiles

It is of note that the name Mephistophiles may refer to its break down which translates roughly into "no lover light." Or no lover of the light. Well Faust may have been getting at this, but I certainly am.

Taken in Phoenix after a night of ice skating.

Enjoy.

Dreams

I go looking for them today. I notice one of my favorite places for them has been bull dozed and carts are in new spots and the mud is cleared from the culverts. Hooray I have good light and cold weather. I drop into the culvert looking for new ones- nothing doing but I know another spot that just might be in better light today. I go under Interstate 40 and pass the homeless at the end of the tunnel. In a big heap above the culverts are these, but the light isn't anything special with it at your back. I move on and when going back to truck I see this shot- and it all comes together- Premonitory Dreams.

I have them all the time, but they go forgotten during waking hours.

Sleep Faster

A new photo from the summer trips through NM. This may the only place where you will see any explanation of the title for cart photographs. Sleep faster is something Elie Wiesel (Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Holocost survivor, and author) said and was quoted during an interview by Terry Gross on her show Fresh Air. I don’t remember who was being interviewed. This title and the focus of the interview are non sequitur. However, I found the idea of sleeping faster fascinating and dwelled on it for a bit. Concentration camp victims had to share bunks and told each other to sleep faster so they could get their chance at a bed.

Because

I always spell the word BECAUSE wrong while typing (it happened while I just typed that last one). It is how I type, it is becasue I can't stop doing it, and it is because it is the way I am. Photography is the same way with me. If I was left with nothing on a deserted island, I would still think about the photographs I would like to take. I would like to share some of these photos with you my friends.....
